Dallas county was founded on March 30, 1846 and was possibly named for George Mifflin Dallas, the 11th Vice President of the United States under U.S. President James K. Polk. The Dallas county seat is the city of Dallas.
The construction of the Interstate Highway System reinforced Dallas’s prominence as a transportation hub, with four major interstate highways converging in the city and a fifth interstate loop around it. This highway system allows for goods and services to be easily delivered throughout the county and beyond.
