Ocala founded in 1849 and incorporated as a town on February 4, 1869. It is home to over 400 thoroughbred farms and training centers, Ocala was officially named the Horse Capital of the World in 2007.

Ocala is home to 29 year old Erin Jackson. On February 13, 2022, Jackson won the gold medal in the Women’s 500m speed skating event at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. She is the first Black American woman to medal in speed skating.
