Savannah was established February 12, 1733. Savannah is the oldest city in the U.S. state of Georgia and is the county seat of Chatham County. Savannah’s nickname is “The Hostess City of the South”.
Savannah, Georgia attracts millions of visitors to its cobblestone streets, parks, and notable historic buildings like the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA. Orleans Square in Savannah is named in commemoration of the Battle of New Orleans.
Savannah is the home of the First African Baptist Church (one of the oldest African-American Baptist congregations in the United States) and Temple Mickve Israel (the third-oldest synagogue in the U.S.).
Savannah is home to Candler Hospital. Candler Hospital, founded in 1804, later merged St. Joseph’s Hospital, another hospital also located in Savannah.
The Candler campus is also home to the 62,000 sq ft Nancy N. and J.C Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion. It also houses the Mary Telfair Women’s Hospital which offers specialized care for women.
The City of Savannah, Georgia is a growing historic community with affordable housing and plenty of available retail space for new businesses.
In the early 2020s, Electric vehicle manufacturers are flocking to Georgia. In May 2022, Kia Motors’ parent company, Hyundai Motor Group, is in talks to build the company’s second factory in Georgia near Savannah. Kia and Rivian in Morgan and Walton counties will create upwards of 16,000 new jobs when completed.
