The Sea Islands are a chain of tidal and barrier islands on the Atlantic Ocean coast of the Southeastern United States. Numbering over 100, they are located between the mouths of the Santee and St. Johns Rivers along the coast of the US states of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. The largest of these is Johns Island in South Carolina. Roughly one-third of the Johns Island is within the city limits of Charleston
The Glynn County, Georgia island communities of Jekyll Island, Little St. Simons Island, St. Simons Island and Sea Island have been extensively developed for upscale resort, recreational, and residential use.
The Brunswick and Georgia area Gullah People are distinguished by identifying as either “Freshwater Geechee” or “Saltwater Geechee”, depending on whether they live on the mainland or the Sea Islands.
