Tempe Streetcar is a streetcar extension of Phoenix’s Valley Metro Rail light rail system. Construction began in 2017 and is now open for service. Riders can go to a streetcar stop on Friday, May 20 at approximately 10 a.m. and catch one of those bright green and silver streetcars. Service opens to the public and will be free for the first year.
Tempe Streetcar travels on Mill and Ash avenues from Rio Salado Parkway and Marina Heights to Dorsey Lane and Apache Boulevard and differs from light rail in that Streetcar shares the roadway with vehicle traffic.
The now completed Tempe Streetcar, will link various parts of the city’s downtown, as well as the Tempe campus of Arizona State University, with the Valley Metro main line. Several stops will be along Mill Avenue, the location of many fine restaurants and social events.
