The City of Phoenix is home to the headquarters of Nikola Corporation (Nasdaq: NKLA), named in honor of Nikola Tesla (1856 – 1943). However, though they adopted the name, Nikola Corporation is not related to the inventor.
Nikola Corporation is an American manufacturer of heavy-duty commercial battery-electric vehicles, fuel-cell electric vehicles, and energy solutions.
In 2019, Nikola Motor Company purchased 389 acres in Coolidge, Arizona to start building a factory that will produce zero-emissions heavy trucks.
In February 2022, the company projected deliveries of between 300 and 500 of its first battery-electric semitrucks to customers. These are known as the “Nikola Tre” trucks.
In April 2022, Nikola publicly showed truck number 001 (followed by number 002, 003 and so on) rolling off the Nikola assembly line in their, now completed, Coolidge plant.
